Art Posted July 29, 2010 Share #1 Posted July 29, 2010 I wasn't sure which forum category to put this in, so here's a link to it Looks like maybe a Medal Of Honor ring. Anybody got any ideas on this one? http://www.usmilitariaforum.com/forums/ind...showtopic=82346

Anybody got any ideas on this one? http://www.usmilitariaforum.com/forums/ind...showtopic=82346 I do like the engraving in the ring, wonder if it's sterling. Do you see any markings stating that? It looks like it might be? Johnny R.
Art Posted July 29, 2010 Author Share #3 Posted July 29, 2010 Yeah, I forgot to say that it is also marked Sterling inside the band. If this really belonged to a MOH receipient I would love to know the story behind it. I think I paid either $50 or $75 for it. I figured for that price, I'd take a chance on it being real. Could be a MoH Society type item (private purchase) "Pack of Smokes" certainly would be a WWII idiom. Other than that, it's anyones guess. If I come across anything new —I'll post it here on the Forum. Johnny R.
kjones5452 Posted July 30, 2010 Share #5 Posted July 30, 2010 This may sound rude buts it's not meant to be. The ring appears to have been "dug up" like maybe found by somebody metal detecting. I feel something such as this had to have been lost, and whomever owned it would probably been buried with it if it was still in his possession. I don't believe a ring like this would have been sold or given away.
Art Posted July 30, 2010 Author Share #6 Posted July 30, 2010 Even though I bought it, I would definitely give it back to someone (or their children) that may have lost it or had it stolen. I was wondering if this was just some old novelty ring I had never seen before, but since no one else has seen one either, I'm leaning more towards a custom privately made ring. CNY Militaria Posted August 18, 2017 Share #7 Posted August 18, 2017 Sorry to bring up the old topic, but I saw it for sale and wanted to add my opinion. My first thought with regard to "Pack of Smokes" is that the vet probably received a MOH, and being the humble recipient we often see, made some remark along the lines of "I'd rather have a pack of smokes" when he was notified. And as a gift/joke, someone inscribed the saying on his ring and have it to him. Just a guess of course!
