The Cuban Missile Crisis was actually in the early 60s. Great pictures..and a great idea for a thread!

Whoops typographical error on my part, I meant 1960's don't know why I typed 80's. Gotta start proof reading before I post!

Here's my dad, who served from 1953 to 1958 in the Navy. Here he is on the USS SPERRY in San Diego. I'll be spending father's day with my father in law...I'm still trying to find pics of him!

I just added this second photo as well...from the time my dad spent up in Kodiak, Alaska, prior to reporting to the SPERRY. He digitized a number of his slides for the kadiak.org website and put them on the web: http://www.kadiak.org/photos/schwind/2/index.html

Edit - sized down the original photo! Also added second photo.

My Father, CPT William Bunting (1st row 2nd from left), commander of Company "C", 299th Engineer Combat Battalion, taking time out with his Headquarters Platoon, at Oberwinter, Germany, 8 km north of Remagen, 16-26 Mar 1945. They were there helping with the bridgehead.

Co-incidentally, someone started a thread featuring a USN jumper bearing the same "atomic" rating very recently. It might still be current?

Yep, still is the current Electronics Technician rating badge. I think that it might have changed angles slightly over time though (compared to some I just saw) but otherwise it's the same (see pic below)

Anyone notice just how young these gentlemen look!? Hardly surprising then that when we buy old uniforms they're often something like 36" chest / 30" waist!! Oh to be that young again!

Here's mine-I'm going down to see him tomorrow. He was in the 385th BG, 8th AAF.

Hi Boyt. That's a killer A2 your dad's wearing there! Is it still in the family?

Why yes it is! It's showing it's age, just like it's owner, but here it is. I used to wear it at college in the '70s.

Here area a couple of my dad. He served from 1948 - 1949 in the Ohio National Guard in Artillery and from 1949 - 1952 with the US Army Signal corp. He was in Korea from 1950-1952 and landed behind the marines at Inchon to set up army communications. After they took Seoul he was assigned to 8th Army HQ, Signal section based on a hill overlooking Seoul. He was also there for the push out of Seoul down to Pusan and the fight back up to Seoul. He earned 4 Campaign stars for his service in Korea and was discharged at the rank of Corporal

I don't have any way to scan in photos, my dads uniforms are posted in the uniform section. Dave, notice the trousers your Dad is wearing? Those flyfronts with belt loops the Navy played with in the '50s. I had a pair of my dads too for awhile. Actually wore them with undress blues on the Kitty Hawk in '73. Nobody noticed or said a thing.

Hello Dave. That explains why it was referred to as "atomic" in the thread I referred to previously! (I did a quick scroll but failed to locate it...but I know it was recent!)

This is a picture of my Dad. That's me in the middle, with my sister. He died of wounds on 4/27/65. He was an advisor to the ARVN.

CCM Homer Cunningham (left) with his good friend John? Silk serving as Junior Officers of the Day at the Advance Base Construction Depot, Pearl Harbor, in 1944. They are wearing S&W Victory Model .38 revolvers. Other than the Chief device on their headgear, no rank insignia, Dad has taken off his tie and his shirt pocket is open - guess there weren't any spit and polish officers around.
