John truly made the term "Cuss like a sailor" a true one. I don't think I have ever heard a person "wax poetic" in the language of vulgarity like John Finn. He was a great man and was hilarious when telling his sea stories.

Being a Medal of Honor recipient was so important to him that he once "lost" his MOH for years because he took it off and put it in the pocket of his suit coat which didn't get hung up properly when he took it off- out of sight, out of mind for John Finn.

I am sorry that the man wasn't able to hang on through the Memorial Day weekend, as it was his fallen brothers that were important to John Finn.

Rest in Peace to a true Patriot. John Finn was also an icon and hero of the Aviation Ordnance community, I had the opportunity once to shake the man's hand and hear him speak...time and age did nothing to dull the man's wit! We should all hope for as long and happy a life as John led.

GodSpeed and IYAOYAS!

Thank you for the post and bring to our attention his passing.

Finn was the oldest of 91 living recipients of the nation’s highest award for bravery in combat. The number of living Medal of Honor recipients from World War II is now 19; the oldest of those is Barney Hajiro, 93, of Hawaii.

Remember to visit with our elders as their ranks get thinner each day.

John Finn MOH. :salute:

I had the pleasure of spending some time with John Finn at the MOH meeting in 1989, pleased to see all the kind words posted here by fellow forum members, really sorry I only got to find this post today.

Deep regards to an American legend
