Major General Brian Winski, commanding general of the 101st Airborne Division, wearing full color 101st SSI and RANGER tab on his Army Combat Uniform. Note that he is wearing the U.S. Army beret flash rather than the flash for the 101st Airborne Division.

101st Airborne Division SSI worn by an enlisted man on a short sleeve khaki shirt. I don't believe this was ever authorized.

Soldiers of the 101st Airborne Division in Bastogne during the 75th Anniversary commemoration of the Battle Of The Bulge. All are wearing full color 101st Airborne SSI and at least one is wearing the full color SAPPER tab. Note that all of the soldiers are wearing the U.S. Army beret flash rather than the flashes authorized for their respective units.

And finally for tonight, a English Coffee 1st Infantry Division patch worn by Col Fredrick W.Gibb C.O of the 16th Infantry, probably taken after V-E Day, Gibbs took over command of the 16th Infantry from Col George A. Taylor like in July of 44, prior to this he was the 3rd Battalion Skipper in Africa and Sicily, then after Sicily, kicked upstairs as a staff officer, Divisional G-3.

Company F (Airborne), 1st Battle Group, 23rd Infantry was active in Alaska from 1962. Link that hopefully works: https://books.google...epage&q&f=false

From the same publication, what I think is the 172nd Infantry Brigade shoulder patch on an M114 crewman.

On the left is the approved SSI for the Security Force Assistance Command with ADVISOR tab which is worn by the members of the various Security Force Assistance Brigades, with each brigade having a distinct DUI. On the right is a soldier from the 1st Security Force Assistance Brigade wearing the original style of SSI for the unit with COMBAT ADVISOR tab. The same SSI was also worn with an ADVISE-ASSIST tab. I believe this SSI was actually approved by the Institute of Heraldry but later redesigned to the current design because of outcry from Special Forces soldiers who complained it too closely resembled the 1st Special Forces SSI. I think these early versions were privately manufactured and sold in military clothing stores outside Fort Benning before being withdrawn.

1st Log Cmd and MACV patches in 1966 of two members of the 765th Security Platoon, Vung Tau, not much on this unit, Stanton doesn't list Security Platoons in his OOB Vietnam. However if you google the unit images, nothing really at all, but you'll see one of their original liners, an SG liner with band and unit number on one side and 1st Log Cmd patch on the other,. Not 100% sure, but the 765th Security Platoon may of been an Infantry unit, with 11Bs,the Sergeant E-5 on the right seems to wear a CIB,, this maybe indicating it was a Infantry Unit? The one with the MACV combat patch is wearing this maybe cause in 1965 MACV originally commanded and controlled units that would be assigned to the 1st Log Cmd when that unit arrived in country in 1966.

These two GIs are in fact volunteers to the Australian RAAF Squadron No 9, who needed door gunners.

A rare sighting, a 50s Reservist Master Sarge of the 95th Infantry Division when it was still a combat infantry division of the reserve in the summer of 1955, it is downgraded and reorganized as a training division in 1958.
