Here's one I cannot figure out at all. This brigadier general appears to be wearing a 5th Armored Division SSI with a SPEARHEAD tab. SPEARHEAD was the nickname of the 3rd Armored Division, not the 5th. On top of that, this photo was taken in Vietnam, most likely in 1965 or 1966, years after the 5th Armored Division had last been active.

**After doing some research, this may be Brigadier General Kelsie E. Reaves who was assistant division commander of the 3rd Armored Division until May 1963 when he was reassigned to the Office of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. **

Kelsie Reaves as a major general. Same guy?

It sure looks like a "3" to me on that armored division SSI. The angle may be making it look like a "5" to you.

Probably so. At any rate, this shows a 3rd Armored Division SSI being worn in Vietnam. I would assume this was some sort of inspection tour right after his transfer to the Pentagon.

Here;s a page where it say Reaves commanded Ft Campbell, doesn't give exact date but we assume sometime in 1968, note to a little bit of mention on the ever curious Vietnam Era Sight Seeing Sixth.

Major of the Army Recruiting Command wearing the Airborne patch on his overseas cap and generic Special Forces oval behind his jump wings.

All makes sense except the Background Trimming. But being assigned to a non-status unit never stopped many a Paratrooper from wearing an oval from his last or favorite past unit.

Special Forces private of the 8th Special Forces Group wearing the generic oval and Medical Corps branch insignia

Interesting, this 1st Group SF trooper is wearing a CIB and A CMB. Not un heard of, just interesting. Early short as he is wearing the Expeditionary medal as opposed to the VN service AND Campaign medals.

58th Infantry Platoon (Scout Dog) 101st Airborne Division. Note he is wearing the patch type crest on his eppaulettes instead of the DUI for the non color bearing units.

58th Infantry Platoon (Scout Dog) 101st Airborne Division. Same soldier as previous two posts. Note the scroll is subdued while the 101st SSI is full color. Also note the cap.

2nd Infantry Division - Korean War. It kind of looks like it has a merrowed edge. And who thought those chevrons were a good idea?

The Indianhead patch, probably will be a Japanese made one, check this topic out, the thick border on these

Also of note is, while he's wearing the 1948 Reg stripes, he's not wearing the Quad Discs, meaning one taken sometime into very late 51 into 52.

Accidentally badly cropped, but, an array of Virginia Protective Force SSI on the officers flanking Virginia's wartime governor, Colgate Darden. Also on display is the Virginia Reserve Militia's huge chest patch, since the majority of men in the photo were as the caption says part of the VRM's Co. No. 29 at Tappahannock.
