Notice the partially obscured female private in the background wearing a 3rd Infantry Division SSI on her Class B uniform. I'm not sure this was ever authorized.

Yes that's a first, this WAC uniform was the equivalent of the Khakis, the short Sleeve Khakis, no shoulder patches on those, even back in the 50s and mid 60s when the long sleeve Khaki shirt was worn, and worn with shoulder patches WACs wore no shoulder patches on these shirts.

Here’s a great shot of a II Corps Patch worn by this officer who would later become a Brigadier General.

Another shot of the 5th Regimental Combat Team in action including a colonel who is presumably the commanding officer.

Any lists of C.O.s of the 5th RCT during Korea? This has to be one of their commanders as he's a Full Colonel.

Subdued Seventh Army SSI with what looks like an OPFOR tab beneath it on black BDU's. The beret has the DUI of the 4th Infantry Regiment. The soldier is most likely assigned to the 1st Battalion 4th Infantry which was assigned as the Opposing Force at the Seventh Army's Combat Maneuver Training Center. I have also seen it referred to as the 7th Army Combined Arms Training Center.

This Airborne or Pathfinder Course instructor served 1976 to 2003. I believe this photo was taken in the early 1980s. Note the Airborne Command SSI is one piece with a gold on black AIRBORNE tab that appears to have a red merrowed edge. He's also wearing the Infantry School SSOI with AIRBORNE tab on his left sleeve.

Looks Flat edge with attached tab, embroidered on a Red base, a early mid 60s one?

That was my first thought also. But then noticed the the PFDR badge is merrowed edge. My guess would be the someone extended a red border from the base patch around the Airborne tab.. So would say mid - late 60's.

  • 2 weeks later...

Airborne Command SSI worn by members of the 10th Special Forces Group. Note the officer on the left is wearing the numeral "10" on his Infantry collar insignia which might easily be confused for the 10th Infantry Regiment.

Also note in the photo on the right, the sleeve of a second soldier can be seen with the Special Forces SSI.

Yeah, I thought I had listed that one too, but I guess I forgot.

I wonder if the hash marks are previous service in the regular army or for service in the OHNG or a combination of both? There was a topic a few years back that had info that hash marks could be worn by NG NCO, previous thought (myself included) was that only RA wore them, I'll have to try and find that old topic. Would of loved to see if any combat patches are worn on these coats too, but never know that :D

I think this is the topic here, though I think there may of been at least one more different topic on all this, an earlier one.

Here's the earlier one. If anyone can add more information please do.
