U. S. Army Personnel DOD and Joint Activities SSI with AIRBORNE tab

Additional insignia of the unit. Have also seen black and yellow tab used over this SSI. Since tab is not authorized I'm sure there were both versions used.

53rd Troop Command of the New York National SSI with the DUI of the 369th Support Battalion. The 369th was originally the 369th Infantry Regiment in World War I and the DUI was originally approved for the regiment. This soldier is wearing the French Fourragere the 369th Infantry Regiment earned in World War I.

A lot of us have seen this photo and have our own comments. But this is the kind of photo that hits all the points. Here is a pretty incredible photo posted on ebay and almost at the end of it's run. At the price it's going, A LOT of folks want it...BAD.

7th Armor soldier, WITH bring backs and a pretty gal (his wife). This must have been a heck of a pair. The photos posted of her in the listed auctions are interesting as well. Talk about bravado. This photo shows him as a PVT. 3 years worth of overseas bars?!? Officers "U.S." on his overseas hats, war trophies pinned to his chest. I bet this guy was quite a character. Another photo in the listings shows him as a CPL. Enjoy the shot.

U. S. Army South - the old Caribbean Command SSI - with an AIRBORNE tab. I believe the beret flash and oval are for the Special Operations Command South. Note he is not wearing DUI's on his epaulettes.

Parachute rigger wearing the old 81st Infantry Division SSI with a gold on black AIRBORNE tab. Depending on when the photo was taken, the SSI represented either the 81st Army Reserve Command, 81st Regional Support Command or 81st Regional Readiness Command. At any rate, the unit commanded and controlled Army reserve units in the Southeastern United States. The 81st SSI looks odd on a dress uniform since the actual authorized full color patch is basically a subdued patch of black on olive green.

1st Information Operations Command (Land). A new one to me. The photos of the SSI I have found online all seem to show the patch is to be worn angled like the example I am posting, while this soldier appears to be wearing his with the sword pointing vertically and the lightning bolt pointing horizontally.

The pic.in post # 4068 US Army South -- what unit is this ? US Army South ABN Det.?

doughboy

The flash and oval appear to be for Special Operations Command South. The unit is now authorized its own SSI and DUI.
