Military Police NCO wearing the Infantry School SSI with 11th Infantry DUI. In 1987, the 11th Infantry Regiment replaced the old School Brigade at Fort Benning and conducted the Office Candidate School and Infantry Officer Basic Courses. It's hard to see, but he has a "V" device on his Bronze Star ribbon.

10th Mountain Division with the letters "BNQ" embroidered on it. The soldier was assigned to the 210th Forward Support Battalion. I'm not sure if this was actually worn on duty or just put on the uniform for a picture. Other pictures of the soldier wearing the 10th SSI don't show the letters.

Here's another soldier wearing the Infantry School SSI with 11th Infantry Regiment DUI. Considering that he is a 2nd Lieutenant with prior enlisted service, I assume he is a recent OCS graduate, though his branch is Military Intelligence and not Infantry. Per Wikipedia, “On 8 February 1991, the School Brigade was inactivated and redesignated as the 11th Infantry Regiment. The 1–11th is the Direct Commission Course and Basic Officer Leadership Course, Phase Two (BOLC II). 2–11th is the home of the Infantry Basic Officer Leadership Course (IBOLC/BOLC III). 3–11th is the Officer Candidate School. On 27 June 2007 as part of the Transformation of the US Army, the 11th Infantry Regiment was redesignated the 199th Infantry Brigade at Fort Benning.”
Note he also wears the Drill Sergeant Identification Badge and Driver/Mechanic Badge from his enlisted days.

Infantry School SSI with 329th Infantry Regiment DUI. I cannot find the connection between the two since at this time (around 2008), the 1st Battalion 329th Regiment was assigned to the 100th Division (Institutional Training)

201st Military Intelligence Brigade or 201st Battlefield Surveillance Brigade, depending on when the photo was taken, with AIRBORNE tab. I believe the oval is for the 160th Infantry Long Range Surveillance Detachment. The colors of the oval are the same as those of the 160th's DUI.

Notice that the soldier is wearing his U.S. and Infantry branch discs on the wrong lapels.

Oval originally authorized for E Trp 1 / 18 Cav..

So much shifting around of NG LRS units that the photo may represent the period between 160th Inf Det (not Regt) and Co F (LRS) 52nd Inf.

This Command Sergeant Major is wearing the SSI of the 32nd Medical Brigade and the DUI of the 187th Medical Battalion which was assigned to the Medical Professional Training Brigade, which I don't think has its own SSI. On top of that, the flag in the background bears the SSI of the U.S. Army Medical Department Center and School, Health Readiness Center of Excellence.

5th Ranger Battalion. What is the insignia on the cap?

Check this out, found the same portrait on this site below posted images, says it is a cut down RANGER Diamond, the top and the bottom points cut flat, don't know how prevalent that was, if it was just this one GI or more did it???.

Why would they be olive green when the Army has apparently abandoned that shade for everything else?

Drill Sergeant of the 2nd Battalion 10th Infantry Regiment (Basic Combat Training) wearing Infantry blue shoulder cord and discs and second award of the Combat Infantryman Badge and 3rd Chemical Brigade SSI. The 3rd Chemical Brigade is currently a training unit stationed at Fort Leonard Wood, MO and assigned to the Training And Doctrine Command but retains its lineage as a chemical unit.

Maj Gen James Hollingsworth in 1972 as MACV C.O. of the Third Regional Assistance Command, looks like a U.S. made Merrowed Edge Subdued MACV patch there.
