Here's one I don't understand. The caption of the photo states as follows: "(From left) Lieutenant Gen. John Vines, commander, Multinational Corps-Iraq, Maj. Gen. David Rodriguez, commander, Task Force Freedom, and Maj. Gen. Thomas Turner, commander, 101st Airborne Division and Task Force Freedom, salute the Colors during today's Transfer of Authority ceremony at Forward Operating Base Diamondback. The ceremony marked official handover of Multinational Force-North to Task Force Band of Brothers. (Photo By Spc. Anna-Marie Risner, 133rd Mobile Public Affairs Detachment)"

Why is a major general wearing the SSI of the 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment which I would assume is always commanded by a colonel? Is it because the 11th ACR was acting as an HQ element for a larger force?

I believe this is the 93rd Infantry Division but I'm not 100% sure. The officer served with the 370th Infantry Regiment.

11th Corps, summer 1966. A GI from a St Louey MO based Reserve outfit, the 520th Maintenance Battalion. Miller served before this unit in a unit of the old 102nd infantry Division, when the division, like all the rest of the remainig USAR combat divsiones were inactivated in December 1965, he transferred over to the 520th Maint Bn, XI Corps. He looks like an Old Timer, no doubt was in WW TWO, The BIG ONE.

Some 2nd Division medics in the ETO, of note is the wear of the OD on Khaki chevrons by the Sergeant in the top photo, one does see this now and again on field uniforms in the States, England, the MTO and ETO..

General Dan K. McNeill, commander of the International Security Assistance Force, wearing the SSI of that organization along with a photo of a Royal Marine Commando wearing the same patch. I believe this is a NATO approved insignia rather than approved by the U.S. Army. However, there is a separate U.S. approved insignia for the U.S. Army Element International Security Assistance Force Joint Command shown here.

Members of the 33rd Infantry Brigade Combat Team of the Illinois National Guard laying a wreath in 2011 in honor of members of the 192nd Tank Battalion lost in the fighting on Bataan and the Bataan Death March. Note the soldier on the right is wearing a full color SSI, which can be done in the discretion of the local commander, and the one on the left is wearing a subdued version as a combat patch.

Salvage Sailor

I Corps, Zebra Club, Fort Shafter Hawaii

Reactivated for service in World War II, the corps took command of divisions in the south Pacific, leading US and Australian forces as they pushed the Japanese army out of New Guinea. It went on to be one of the principal leading elements in the Battle of Luzon, liberating the Philippines. It then took charge as one of the commanding headquarters in the occupation of Japan.
Deployed to Korea at the start of the Korean War, the corps was one of three corps that remained in the country for the entire conflict, commanding US, British, and South Korean forces through three years of back-and-forth campaigns against North Korean and Chinese forces
