SWSM #6672 was issued in 1920 to a C.A. Jollie, Field Clerk, Ft. Reno.

Is your Philippine Insurrection medal the Philippine Campaign or Philippine Congressional? If it's the Philippine Campaign, it needs to have an "No." prefix in front of the serial number to be traceable. Philippine Campaign No. 3671 was issued in 1908 to Sgt. C.E. Lapham, Co. D, 6th Infantry. If the medal has an "M.No." prefix or no prefix before the serial number, it is not traceable. Philippine Congressional No. 3671 was issued in 1909 to George Maddux, Co. A, 2nd Oregon Volunteer Infantry. I hope this helps!

Charles A. Jollie was born about 1877 in provenance, RI. He enlisted in the US Army on 10 Oct 1898 and served with Battery B of the 2nd US Artillery Regiment, discharged 26 April 1899 at Havana, Cuba. (This service also qualified him for a Cuban Occupation Medal.)

He re-enlisted 8 Aug 1899 at Ft. Adams, RI and served with Battery H, 7th US Artillery Regiment and in the Hospital Corps. He was discharged 7 Aug 1902 at Nueva Caseres, Philippine Islands. This information was extracted from records on ancestry.com.

Since he wasn't in the service when the the Philippine Campaign Medal was authorized in 1905 he was not entitled to the "No." numbered version of the medal. However he was eligible to purchase the "M.No." version of the medal when it was created in 1913. There should be a record of him purchasing the medal in the National Archives however it will not have the actual medal number on the document.

Frank,

I saw your post and I was hoping you could help me track down a medal that was handed down to me. It's my great grandfathers Philippine Insurrection medal (No 8070). At least I've been told it's his. His name is Fredrick Cannaday. Since I joined the Marine Corps, I've inherited everything military from my family. I don't even know if the medal is his or if he was even in the Army. This medal is from my Mom's side of the family and they told me we're descended from Indian princesses LOL! I don't know what to expect.

I'm hoping to track down his service records via the National Archives but wanted to make sure he was actually in the Army before I go that route. I don't even have his SSN.

Can you tell me what resources you're using to get the information? I appreciate any help you can provide.

Semper Fi,

Kim

There was a person with this name who served in the Army from 1898 to 1914. There are records on his military service, medals and pension at the National Archives in Washington but it will take the services of a professional researcher to access all of them. Since he only served until 1914 there probably wont be a file on him in St. Louis. Check out ancestry.com and footnote.com for some records on his service. Both sites require a paid subscription.

Just to make sure, did the medal prefix with No. or MNo. or just a number.

Hi,

I recently came into possession of a Philippine Insurrection Medal No. 4826. I noticed the previous threads about help finding who the medal was issued to, by the number along the edge of the medal....any help identifying this soldier would be greatly appreciated..

Hello,

Spanish War Service Medal 5990 was issued to P. B. Snelson from Great Falls, Montana for service as a Musician with Company I or J, 52nd Iowa Infantry. I'm sure this Pypsy Burr Snelson, born 12 May 1879 in Iowa and died 3 November 1946 in Cascade County, Montana. He was Postmaster in Great Falls from 1939 to 1943.

Hope this helps.

Bruce Linz

Hello all,

Philippine Campaign Medal "No. 6148" has been passed down through my family on my Mother's side. She does not know which ancestor (if any of ours), was part of this campaign. I have been tracing my ancestors over the last 3 years and would like to research whomever earned this medal, whether my ancestor or not.

Thank you,

-TD

Would you be able to help with Philippine Insurrection medal: No 7127. It came with a group of identification books and smaller items belonging to Colonel Lester J. Hensley. He was born in 1901, so it's not issued to him, but was thinking it may have belonged to his father or other family member. Thanks--John
