Greg Robinson Posted July 4, 2007 Share #1 Posted July 4, 2007 I started a thread on this topic in the early days of the USMF but at the time nobody could offer any information. Well, there's a lot more members now so maybe somebody knows something about these. Made to a late WW2 pattern but with the addition of M1950 pattern liner buttons it was called the M1943 MQ-1. Contract date is in 1948 but I doubt the spec for those liner buttons was written that early. So when was it made? During the early days of the Korean War the army reworked existing M1943's and added liner buttons but this not the case with the MQ1. It's factory original with those buttons. Whatever it is and whenever it was made, it's an interesting field jacket and you seldom see these. I got lucky and picked up a mint example. So does anybody know the history of these? I assume it was part of the same US Army program that developed the MQ1 Pile Field Cap.
Greg Robinson Posted July 4, 2007 Author Share #2 Posted July 4, 2007 The early liner specification didn't include the two buttons at the inside collar to support the liner. This is a charactaristic of MQ1's and M1950 field jackets. The buttons were added to the M1951. What's odd here is that by the time the M1950 field jacket liner was actually produced it had button slits for those non existent buttons. pic showing liner buttons. And pic of a size small M1950 liner which mates up perfectly (but for the above mentioned missing collar buttons) with my MQ1 jacket.
