Gary Cain Posted July 4, 2007 Share #1 Posted July 4, 2007 Had this wander in two days ago. A nice 1919 dated USMC jacket in real good condition! Just a couple of moth nips and as you can see he saw some action.

KurtA Posted July 4, 2007 Share #8 Posted July 4, 2007 That's an officer's coat, isn't it? (based on the shorter eagle wings on the buttons and higher quality coat material). Very nice! Kurt

wolventm Posted July 4, 2007 Share #10 Posted July 4, 2007 I agree based on the buttons and no apparent chevron marks on the sleeve that it is an officer or warrant officer. As a piece of trivia for those interested, Marine Corps SNCO's (SSG and above) are authorized to wear private purchase officer's blouses as long as the lower side flap style pockets are sewn down. It was not much done because of the cost but occasionally SNCO's do it for the better quality material, tailoring and sharper appearance. If any collectors run into such a blouse with SSG or above on the sleeves, it is not an error or phantasy coat. wolventm, GySgt USMCR-Ret

cbuehler Posted July 5, 2007 Share #13 Posted July 5, 2007 A very nice officer's coat and difficult to find. Now for the really hard part...trying to find a pair of the Officer's period collar ornaments and then having the money to pay for them!
