With the group came a scrap book. This contained a lot of newspaper articles on Iwo that were not glued down and various papers. This one is typed but not signed.

Ron,

Fantastic grouping  I remember fondling this group in Des Moines a few years ago, correct? I just found some information on Kern from my WWII Naval Medical Department records. Seems Kerns was also in Okinawa as the record shows he was wounded in May of 1945 as a first class as in the photos and it does not list which Marine Division he was attached to only "Marine Division." Usually these citations are more specific such as an exact day and division. Really cool.

Thanks for posting.

Thanks guys for the comments and for looking.

Kurt this is the group you saw at DesMoines.I dont usually take the scrap book along as he had just placed a lot of loose magazine and newspaper articles in it about Iwo.Thanks for the info on Okinawa. That makes more sense now as the one article I posted of his being wounded was hand dated May 1945.Guess I will have to send off for his service records sometime.
