SI Gordon Posted June 27, 2007 Share #1 Posted June 27, 2007 I have owned several WW1 period field telephones over the years but this pair is as nice as they come !! The original owner was a 42nd division vet in an artillery unit. He used this in his house and had hooked it up to his work shop.

TrenchRaider1918 Posted June 28, 2007 Share #4 Posted June 28, 2007 Cool device. They must've had these hooked up from dugouts in the communication trenches.
Bob Hudson Posted June 28, 2007 Share #5 Posted June 28, 2007 The materials and the shape of the handset are different but it's really not too different mechanically and electrically than the EE-8 series used in WWII and is probably compatible with the last field phones produced (in the 60's or 70's???). I like the little telegraph key on the top: in really bad conditions a Morse code message could get through when voice messages just could not be understood. DevilDan1900 Posted June 29, 2007 Share #8 Posted June 29, 2007 I recently saw two of these sitting in a corner at a local antique shop. I had thought about picking them up. Just out of curiosity, what is the value of these WW1 field phones?
SI Gordon Posted June 29, 2007 Author Share #9 Posted June 29, 2007 I recently saw two of these sitting in a corner at a local antique shop. I had thought about picking them up. Just out of curiosity, what is the value of these WW1 field phones? As always condition, condition, condition. 1 Phone will run anywhere from 45 to 125 USD but that was several years ago. Acadien359 Posted October 7, 2016 Share #11 Posted October 7, 2016 SI Gordon, awesome phones and thanks for sharing. I have one of the M1917 phones and agree that, due to its construction, was probably intended for use in semi-fixed positions such as dugouts and bunkers. It appears that your other phone has a leather shoulder strap--if so, could you show a close-up of the strap and/or hardware? If they were equipped with a strap, I'd like to try and make a replacement one for the phone I have. Thanks Alan
