Was a veteran written up for a DFC?

Hi All,

 

I've been getting to know a 2 tour Vietnam veteran 2/502nd '65 to '66 and both the 170th AHC and 175th AHC '67 to '68. He's lived quite a bit of history and I've learn alot from him. Anyway, he was involved in an action during which he saved the life of his crew chief; very dramatic extraction over-the-fence and under the jungle canopy. After asking him, he relayed that his CO stated that he would be written up for a DFC, but he, the veteran, transferred to the 175th within a few days.

 

Is there any way to find out if the write-up was ever done? I'm not too hopeful that it was either written-up or if so, awarded. I do have contact info for the CO, but thought that he might not remember.

 

It would be a nice way for me to honor him.

I would contact the CO anyway, maybe he does remember or can give more information.
