kyhistorian01 Posted January 25, 2010 Share #1 Posted January 25, 2010 Here is another portrait from the group of photos I relocated. It is of a Major General who served with KMAG and although the photo is not named it does have Military Governor of Korea written on the back. Thanks. Wailuna Posted January 25, 2010 Share #3 Posted January 25, 2010 ...Military Governor of Korea... It is Maj. Gen. Archer L. Lerch, who was second Military Governor of Korea from late 1945 until illness incapacitated him in mid-1947 (he died in September 1947). General Lerch did not serve with KMAG, which did not exist until August 1948. p.s. Good work, Jeeper. Looks like we are in overlapping time zones, eh? I wanted to have some history and a name to place with the photo. I assumed KMAG because of the patch, but I guess the patch was used prior to KMAG and was just used by them with the tab. The "Bell and Eagle" SSI (without tab) was worn by U.S. Military Government in Korea during Gen. Lerch's time as Military Governor. Tabs for U.S. Army Forces in Korea ("USAFIK") and Korean Military Advisory Group ("KMAG") were approved in 1949.
