FW12 Posted June 21, 2007 Share #1 Posted June 21, 2007 I stopped in an antique store today and picked up two Vietnam era jackets and one ball cap, all belonging to a certain Captain Allen of military intelligence. These tropical jackets (also referred to as Jungle?) are in excellent shape, and both are around a size 40 or so. What would be the value of this type of grouping or just the jackets individually? I'm afraid my Vietnam-era knowledge is severely limited! Beau 1st jacket - the pictures up close of the insignia are washed out, should be greener (though the collar insignia is done in an embroidered grey). Brig Posted June 22, 2007 Share #5 Posted June 22, 2007 the fact that it's intelligence probably increases the value. and the ball cap, I don't see many of them in that good of shape as for an estimate, I don't know, I deal with little Vietnam uniforms
Bob Hudson Posted June 22, 2007 Share #6 Posted June 22, 2007 I sell a lot of Vietnam combat uniforms and prices are all over the place depending upon who's buying that day. I've sold three of those types of shirts in the last few months: one sold for $12, one for $19 and one for $45 (that was a rare size LARGE). But they had no names or rank on them (they were USMC or unmarked all together). The ballcaps usually seem to go for under $10. With the tags and insignia on this and with the hat, I could see your set going for $50 on a good day (on a GREAT DAY maybe much more).
KurtA Posted June 22, 2007 Share #7 Posted June 22, 2007 The second one is really nice being the earlier style with epaulettes ("2nd Pattern", I believe) and theater-made MI branch insignia. Kurt

Kurt I missed the second pattern with epaulettes and side tabs: that doubles or triples the value.

FW12 Posted June 22, 2007 Author Share #10 Posted June 22, 2007 Any evidence of a SSI on either shoulder? Yes, there was some type of SSI on the right shoulder of the un-epauletted uniform.

doyler Posted June 22, 2007 Share #12 Posted June 22, 2007 again: the pictures up close of the insignia are washed out, should be greener (though the collar insignia is done in an embroidered grey). Nice jackets. The "greying"of the insignia is quite common on the Viet Nam era in country made insignias. The were originally embroidered by hand or by machine with black cotton thread. The thread would fade/bleach out in country quite quickly due to sun, water,or from many launderings. The fade is nice to see as it adds to the origiality of the piece and I havent seen the fakers reproduce this fading.I have an SF Captains jacket and all the insignias were sewn up on a singer sewing machine attached to a bicycle then sewn to jacket.Crazy looking jacket and the various materials used all have a different degree of fading. doyler Posted June 22, 2007 Share #13 Posted June 22, 2007 Yes, there was some type of SSI on the right shoulder of the un-epauletted uniform. Could have been MACV or First Field Force, just a thought. RON
Polygon Posted June 22, 2007 Share #14 Posted June 22, 2007 Judging from what you have, I'm going to ballpark it and say around $80-$90? The fact that the grouping is officer's and military intelligence would definitely help raise the price of the set.
