I got both the helmet and the goggles (which are not the ones displayed as I am still waiting for them in the mail). The setup came from the same estate sale of a USN pilot. I had never seen a Navy pilot with a AAF helmet before and I am quite pleased with this one. It is a unique named setup with TH 37 headset. The oxygen tabs were cut off. I just added the A-14 oxygen mask. THe second one came complete, I hope I will be able to find out more about L.C Wheeler. THe helmet comes from the same pilot as the helmet and headset pictured above.Do any of you know the meaning of the horizontal black bar on the helmet in front? I had never seen the M-450 helmet fitted with the long Y cord. You have more picture readily available than anyone else I know . I have 3 or 4 more helmets with goggles i need to display but I am out of Styrofoam heads. I need to buy more but I am also running out of space. Can you believe that all those heads (CLOSE TO 30 NOW) are displayed in my living room !!! It's always a great topic of conversation with guests . McGuire a catapult pilot on the USS MissouriThis is his obituary:Lofts J. ``Mickey'' McGuire, 84, of Dedham, died Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2008, at home.He was the husband of Jean (Podolske) McGuire of Dedham for 60 years, his high school sweetheart.A true gentleman and character, throughout his life he had many great accomplishments. He graduated from Dedham High School in 1941 as a star track athlete who still holds the school's record for the 220 yard dash.He graduated from Seton Hall Prep in 1942, earned a B.S. in education from Drake University (attending on a full track scholarship) in 1950, and a master's of education degree from Boston University.From 1942 to 1947, Mr. McGuire was an officer and pilot (``catapult flyer'') for the U.S. Navy, serving on the USS Missouri, the battleship on whose decks World War II ended.His professional career included being a history teacher, coach of football, track and basketball, athletic director and principal of the Dedham Junior High School for 17 years, retiring in 1987.He was an avid sportsman, traveler, reader and golfer, was very involved in the local community, and was the former director of Massachusetts State Hockey Tournament, Veteran of the American Legion, member of the Norfolk Golf Club, Westwood, and the Dedham Society of Horse Thieves.He thoroughly enjoyed spending time with all his grandchildren, watching them play sports/activities, and vacationing on Cape Cod.
