gwb123 Posted December 18, 2009 Share #16 Posted December 18, 2009 I'm always amazed at how straight backed and clear eyed the vets at that reunion looked.... thanks for sharing these.
SARGE Posted December 18, 2009 Share #17 Posted December 18, 2009 A great group of photographs. What is particularly neat is that they are press release photos with the information on the back. Thanks for showing. Do you have more or are these the lot?

JimmCapp Posted December 18, 2009 Share #19 Posted December 18, 2009 The Picket's Charge survivors photo was particularly amazing, especially considering how few actually did survive. I can't even imagine what was going through their minds as they walked across that field.....
SARGE Posted December 18, 2009 Share #20 Posted December 18, 2009 There is a lot to see in these photos starting with the General Officer in blue standing by President Wilson in #1. Is that a Medal of Honor or a GAR badge he is wearing? Then, the CS bugler in #11 who is wearing a Music shell jacket. I also noticed the two black Confederate Veterans in the photo in #13. We forget about the black Confederate vets who were generally part of the regular UCV units while most black Union veterans were in segregated GAR units. siege1863 Posted December 20, 2009 Share #21 Posted December 20, 2009 I hope you don't mind me adding this reunion photo to your thread. It is of particular importance to me because this is my g-g-grandfather's regiment, the 114th Ohio Volunteer Infantry, and he is show kneeling in the front row on the far left! My grandmother recognized the building as being that of the Old Soldiers' Home. It was likely the reunion was held nearby to accommodate the men too poor or feeble to travel. Having read of the reunions in the local newspapers, it appears my g-g-grandfather, Robert Bowland, was a regular attendee up until his death in 1898. His son, my great-grandfather, became commander of a local Sons of Union Veterans camp.
Jim Baker Posted December 20, 2009 Share #22 Posted December 20, 2009 These are some great photos. It's strange to think my father talked to some of the Confederate veterans when he was a child. It will be like that with our grandchildren and WWII vets.
