Some vehicles seen in Bastogne's main street on Saturday night....

Early Willys (Slatgrill) MB, Ser#124xxx, DoD 3-4-1942

In the background, you can see the Sherman tank on the corner of Bastogne's main square...

Very nice vehicles but honestly - how can someone put all the stupid looking plates on a historical vehicle like this? :pinch:

Next time someone probably paints his vehicle in pink and puts on white wall tires because the wifes likes it better or what?

YEEEEAH - seems we are talking the same language... :w00t:

It always puts me a smile on my face... no, I´m shaking my head... or maybe both... when I see all the beer & wine crates, glas bottles and german helmets or even post WWII stuff tied on bumpers, hoods and fenders of US WWII Vehicle at Wings & Wheels and elsewhere.

Especially when there is a lot of space in the back.

Best is when the driver wears a german Flecktran uniform or woodland uniform.

You know what I mean?

I say,

Remember, the reason you tie things all over is so that there is room in the back. Fill a Jeep or a 3/4 or a halftrack with the load of soldiers that are supposed to be there and there's no room for a deck of cards. Post war stuff, though and all those doggone rally flags just hurt my eyes.

Yes, I should have added that I photographed the pink Jeep at the Beltring War&Peace Show of 2007!

It was NOT at Bastogne this year; I just added it because of the pink connection.... Sorry for that...

As for adding a ridiculous amount of kit.... How about ridiculous markings and paintwork on some of those vehicles... It seems that many owners spend thousands on getting the parts right, only to ruin an otherwise perfect restoration with incorrect markings or paint...

Do those people actually look at period photographs???

Thats the problem Johan i dont think they do.....Lt Bowers hit the nail on the hea with why kit is lashed to the outside of vehicles..is to make room INSIDE the vehicles....

at least thats what we do when we travel with our vehicles in Europe.

But then also there is a HUGE difference in factory class MV owners...and Re enactor MV owners........:-)

Thats what I mean!

As long as the stuff make sense - no problem with that! Camo nets, mussete bags and stuff like that is of course okay. I´m ment all the "stupid looking" stuff. ;)

as we are atlking about ridiculous paint jobs...

check this one :pinch:

I was in Bastogne in 2004 just before the big 60th anniversary celebration. How neat to see all those military vehicles there for that get together!! I still remeber pulling into Bastogne and the first thing I saw was that Sherman sitting in the square. I darn near had a heart attack!!

Last time I checked the American Flag was not intended to be used as a bug screen for your grille...

An example of how an attempt to be patriotic is turned into a disrespectful gesture, IMHO.
