Lee Ragan Posted November 9, 2009 Share #2 Posted November 9, 2009 I've been collecting USAF enlisted rank for over 30 years and that's a new one on me! I hope somebody comes up with a good identification on this critter.

shrapneldude Posted November 10, 2009 Share #8 Posted November 10, 2009 Call me crazy...but been seeing a lot of patches and designs similar to the USAF enlisted ranks on civillian designer clothing. Most of those I've seen though have been neon green or hot pink...but red is probably just as likely. Also -- the center star I've seen replaced with a skull or a flower or some other such design, and this one is a bit more true to the USAF. Could this chevron be something along those lines though? The pin posts look different than the military reg. styles I've seen. Just a thought.

GIl Sanow Posted November 10, 2009 Share #10 Posted November 10, 2009 Looking at the back, I think these may be German kmade. A friend was statioed in Germany in the '50's with a Bomark squadron -- early air-breathing cruise missles -- ground launched. Could this be related to that time/use? USAF "artillery"? Bluehawk Posted November 10, 2009 Share #11 Posted November 10, 2009 Looking at the back, I think these may be German kmade... G You've seen other German-made pins with those posts? I have to admit that the posts and the texture on the back of that pin did look "odd" when I first saw the photo, but I was reluctant to once again expose my ignorance by saying anything. GIl Sanow Posted November 10, 2009 Share #12 Posted November 10, 2009 To the best of my knowledge, yes, but I don't collect insignia. G
james Posted November 11, 2009 Share #13 Posted November 11, 2009 When going thru certain schools in the U.S. Army,we wore pin on rank (mostly on patrol caps) with a collored backing, like red, green, blue,to denote either class leaders, squad leaders ect.,and the rank was anything from your OWN rank,to SGT,SSGT SFC ect chevrons. Possible something along these lines-temporary leadership identification for USAF PAX in school setting? Just a guess.Maybe it can help with a direction to look in. I would like to know tho-interesting.
