cutiger83 Posted November 1, 2009 Share #7 Posted November 1, 2009 These are great! I had no idea there were so many Snoopy patches out there. This definitely gives me something to look for.....Kat PS. I saw the Halloween Peanuts cartoon the other day. I still laugh at the Snoopy and the Red Baron dog fight. Tonomachi Posted November 1, 2009 Share #9 Posted November 1, 2009 A friend of mine asked me to keep a look out for this patch as his father was involved with this unit. Can anyone tell me anything about this unit or has an example of this patch that I can look at?
gwb123 Posted November 1, 2009 Share #10 Posted November 1, 2009 The YO-3A Quiet Star was an experimental observation aircraft that was designed to operate as quietly as possible. Eleven of the aircraft were built, nine were deployed to Vietnam to serve with the 73rd Aviation Company and the 220th Aviation Company. Apparently all aircraft survived the war and were dispersed to several governmental agencies including NASA and the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (probably hunting for poachers!). http://www.wmof.com/yo3a.htm http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lockheed_YO-
gwb123 Posted November 1, 2009 Share #11 Posted November 1, 2009 Snoopy was a favorite of Forward Air Controllers and associated units. This is a favorite of mine...the I DASC for the I Corps Direct Air Support Center, which would have been located at Da Nang. The original, partially embroidered Thai made version is from the website for Lee-Jackson Militaria: http://ljmilitaria.com/usafotherpatches/ta...t_squadrons.htm For a history of the unit, please see: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tan_Son_Nhut_Air_Base

Cobrahistorian Posted November 1, 2009 Share #18 Posted November 1, 2009 I've got one of the 426th TFTS patches too. So far the only Snoopy squadron patch I own. As far as the YO-3, there is one in storage at Ft. Rucker in the US Army Aviation Museum. I've sat in it. Not really much more than a powered glider!
