Here we go! It was the biggest OLC I had.

And to think I considered posting a 6th AD MP jacket today that I really thought about selling!

I'm being yelled at to kill something and throw it on the grill. Have to see if any small children are out. I'll be back..... :)

Lucked out. Caught two out front playing catch. Kinda small, but I'll slice them thin. Now, I just need to go get more beer. Everthing will be closed over the Holiday.

I kind of resurfaced ..... the night is still young.

Ok, that's 5 bucks for Major 4AD and 5 bucks for MP 6AD, right? ;)

Justin, it looks great with the OLCs.

Was it only the jacket you got?

Btw, about 845 Silver Stars were awarded to soldiers in the 4th Armored Divsion during WWII.

A few Majors in the unit:

Maj James H Van Wagenen (later Lt.-Col.) - Assistant Chief of Staff G-5

Maj. Harry R. Van Arnam - 51st Armored Infantry Battalion

Maj. Thomas G. Churchill - 8th Tank Battalion

Maj. William L. Hunter - 37th Tank Battalion

Maj. Edward Bautz, Jr. - 37th Tank Battalion

Maj. Alonzo A. Balcom, Jr. - 24th Armored Engineer Battalion

Maj. Donald W. Hatch - 24th Armored Engineer Battalion

Maj. Dan C. Alanis - 704th TD Battalion

Maj. Charles I. Kimsey - 704th TD Battalion

Hopefully, it can be of some help.

Ok, I seriously think this may have belonged to Maj. Edward Bautz, Jr. - 37th Tank Battalion, who later became a General in command of the 25th ID in Vietnam. My basis comes from this interview...

http://oralhistory.rutgers.edu/Interviews/bautz_edward.html

He got into the war early, well the coat is dated early in 1942.

He mentions he got a SS, BS, and 3 PH's as well.

This is the closest I can find from that list.

You bet ya!

If you pin this down to a 704th TD man, Erwin will be swimming over. :)

Well, as far as I can make out too, Maj. Edward Bautz, Jr might be a pretty good candidate for having owned this jacket.

As you already said, Justin, the ribbons match what he was awarded.

So ...... he probably would have worn those "tank" (armored) collar insignia afterall. thumbsup.gif

I went through the jacket again and could still find no identifyers. Maybe I will write to NARA for his records and see what his WWII service details, such as number of campaigns. Also, a picture of him might help to help tie to the size this jacket is. You don't happen to have Bautz's serial number do you?

Thanks!

Mind if I join in this little drinking party? Erwin, Do you have any of that cherry beer like I had in Brussels?

Edward Bautz, Jr. O347850. Born 2 Apr 1920 in New Jersey. Graduated from Rutgers Class of 1941. By the way he was a cannon cocker during the war and transferred to the Cavalry in 1947.

Cmon, I may have a gem here! Of course, may is the key word. I should put a tag on it---NFS (Not For Sale). I can tell you this, if it did not have these awesome ribbons on it, I would sell in a second!

Why do you think I want it????

And of course it's armor and a major's.

But, I'll leave you alone. Just let me know when you're ready. And ignore anything that drunken Belgian says.

You know my attraction of officers' uniforms, they just gravitate toward me and can never leave until they are demoted from the closet into the sale pile :)

BTW, I will post the MP armor ike tomorrow, the light was not good enough to take pics today.

Yea, those dang drunks! I recal you were one last night as well...

Hi Justin,

Edward Bautz, Jr. ASN O-347850, hopefully it helps.

Judging by the awards he got, it might be him though.

It is like it has been said; even if it doesn't get id-ed, it sure is a pretty looking jacket.

Btw, Jim doesn't want it, he passes everything 4AD and 704TD Bn on to me.

Ow yes, I am sober (wasn't even drunk, I think).

Luckily I'm Belgian ..... known world wide for holding their liquor (not unlike some others whose name(s) I'm not going to mention. devil.gif;)).

The cherry flavored beer is called "Kriek".

Good beer, especially the Lindemans and Boon type. :)

I'm more of a Hoegaarden and Rochefort (not the cheese, the beer!) "fan".

The MP sounds very interesting.

Anyway, you do have a great collection there, Justin. thumbsup.gif

Justin:

Here is a list of "Possibles" for you. (Using the initial 'I', anyway)

Ike, Joseph C. HQ, 4th Armored Division, G.O. No. 134 (1945)

Irzyk, Albin F. HQ, 4th Armored Division, G.O. No. 58 (1944)

Irzyk, Albin F. HQ, 4th Armored Division, G.O. No. 16 (1945)

Iuppa, Nicholas V. HQ, 4th Armored Division, G.O. No. 58 (1944)

I got the names from this site:

http://www.homeofheroes.com/valor2/SS/2_WW...my/0_index.html

Probably one of the best research sites for valor awards on the net right now. That should help you narrow your search some. Best of all, just about everything on the site is either free, or available for a very small fee.

Hope that helps!

Jason

Going to be one again in about 4 hours!!

Erwin,

Cherry beer sounds strange, but I'll try anything once. We will meet one day. Miss "B" can be the designated driver. :)

Justin,

Show us the MP uniform. Never saw one for a tanker.

Thanks.

Justin,

Where was that mark located?

If that is a laundry code, then it probably is not Baude's jacket. pinch.gif

The closest thing I can find anywhere in it is "I0935". I believe it might be a laundry mark, although based on where I found it, it may not.

As far as I remember, General Irzyk did not have 3 PHs.

I don't know about the other two.

Erwin

Jim, just let me know when, so I can get that beer ice-cold. thumbsup.gif;)

Let's hope Miss "B" wouldn't mind being designated driver.
