Jeeper704 Posted May 26, 2007 Share #1 Posted May 26, 2007 Here are some pictures of a beaten-up photo album I have in my collection. These are photos taken mainly of the 37th Armored Regiment in 1941 - 1942 when the 4th Armored Division still was a "heavy" Armored Division. The album belonged to a Cadet Nurse who was working at the Veteran's Administration Hospital in Perry Point, Maryland. She was from Dupont, Pennsylvania. Cover of photo album. A mint green back 4th Armored Division patch on the inside. A selection of the numerous photos. Also included were photos of US Navy Officers, Female military personnel and even two photos of dead Japanese soldiers. How those got into the album is a mystery. The album is in very bad shape (totally loose pages, water damage, ...). I am thinking of putting the photos on new black pages but keeping the original cover. What do you guys think? Jeeper704 Posted May 26, 2007 Author Share #4 Posted May 26, 2007 And some other photos .... These are some photos that were loose in the album. Two of them show what appear to be dead Japanese soldiers (btw, if this is offensive to someone, please let me know and I ask to remove the last photo. Thank you!). Jim Baker Posted May 26, 2007 Share #5 Posted May 26, 2007 Hey my TD Brother, That is a super album! You have to scan some of the Sherman shots for me. Was this an eBay buy?? Jim
Jeeper704 Posted May 26, 2007 Author Share #6 Posted May 26, 2007 Hello Jim, Indeed an eBay find and it didn't go a lot (luckily for me). Had some contact with the lady who sold the album, she has some letters as well. I'll try to get you some Sherman shots. In this album are Lee-Grant tanks as well. Thanks for the positive comment. siege1863 Posted May 26, 2007 Share #9 Posted May 26, 2007 Nice album! A word of advice, however. Remove the photos as soon as possible. Not only is the black paper VERY acidic, the corner mounts will eventually do harm. If you want to remount the photos in the order of the original album, be sure to use non-acidic pages and clear archival-safe corner mounts. I have many albums that contain photos damaged by the black paper and mounts. The paper tends to "burn" and discolor the photos. The mounts can sometimes do the same. Worse yet, they become adhered to the surface of the photo and cannot be removed without causing damage.
Jeeper704 Posted May 26, 2007 Author Share #10 Posted May 26, 2007 Thanks for the advice. I honestly wasn't aware it could do this much damage. Well, I think I'll keep the covers and use non-acidic paper. Would be a real shame to lose these pictures. Erwin
