776thamtrac Posted May 16, 2007 Share #1 Posted May 16, 2007 Here is one of my uniforms that I really wasn't convinced of the ribbons until the NARA records arrived. First seeing the National Defense, and Victory Ribbon but no theater service ribbon was the real kicker to me. Turns out that during WWII Engelmann served only in the US as an instructor. First in Pre Flight then as a Pilot Flight Instructor on the B29 across the US. So apparently he never wore his American Theater Ribbon. During the Korean War he served as the pilot of a YKB-29J, the Aerial Reflueing variant of the 29. He served one year in Korea before he returned to the States to continue as a flight instructor and reserve officer until 1961.
jim2 Posted May 16, 2007 Share #2 Posted May 16, 2007 Nice early air force uniform. Are the ribbons pin ons, or custom sewn?
776thamtrac Posted May 16, 2007 Author Share #3 Posted May 16, 2007 Hey Jim, Thanks for the comment. The ribbons are all on early clutch back three place ribbon bars. Not one rack but each an individual row. CJW
