This is a recent flea market find. It is a wooden cigarette case with a sliding top to reveal a drilled out area to hold the smokes. One side has the 78th division insignia and "Holland" "19=45" The other side has a unit insignia and "To My Buddy".

Does anyone recognize the crest? Perhaps an artillery unit in the 78th?

The Order of Battle dose not show the 78th ID or the 308th FA Bn ever being in the Netherlands. My guess it was only this guy and his Buddy on leave after the war.

A few weeks ago, I got a unit crest of the 308th FA Bn from a woman who lives in the Netherlands.
In WWII the American soldiers came (often) in her mothers house and probably that an American soldier left this crest behind.

Only strange that the 308th FA Bn haven't been in the Netherlands 'officially'
