Sorry for the poor quality picture taking. This photograph is contained in a used book about John Glenn that I bought for a buck. The photo is captioned:
" The Marine Corps Astronaut Insignia which was presented to Col. Glenn on March 9, 1962 by Marine Corps Commandant General David M. Shoup. Designed in platinum and gold, it will be awarded to Marines who have made successful orbital flights."

That's gotta be one rare qualification badge !

There's a book called American Badges and Insignia, by Evans Kerrigan. I seem to remember that he had a sketch of the badge and a paragraph about it in this book.
