009r.jpg It had another shelf, but I took it out. I think it looks clean and uncluttered.

009r.jpg 014R2.jpg Here is a before and after of one little space. Waste nothing! Not much new to display. I have a couple of new 8th Ikes, but as always no room to display them. I just add a bit at a time and try to improve the "look" of the nice thingd I do have.

013r.jpg 014r.jpg A good view of the little display case. The adds are for Camel cigs. Great fun to read. They are all B-17 related.

034r.jpg 033r.jpg I have also got a "pile of stuff"! Much of it came from forum members. Two new Ikes a great C-1 vest, a nice officers "trench coat". Some B-17 items also. Now like all collectors I have to find a way to display my new treasures.

044r.jpg 042r.jpg The war atlas came out just 3 months after the Pearl Harbor attack. I like the great B-17 graphics on it and the two books. The books were published during the war. That is about all I have picked up in the past few months. Thanks for taking a look.

All wonderful finds. I will bet that you are the only kid on your block with a set of B-17 window wipers. Your collection of 8th AF is growing fast. Do you have a particular Group that you are interested in? Gregg

I agree that I am most likely the only one on the block with B-17 wipers! Now I can say I own a piece of a B-17. I like the Boeing tag that is still attached. I am most interested in B-17 groups but have some wonderful items from B-24 groups. I will collect just about anything from the Mighty Eighth. I have a good collection of books and photos but they take up a lot of room to display. I feel very lucky to have the items I do have and enjoy them daily. Still.......there is always room for more!

005r.jpg My fellow collectors........I SCORED!!!!!!!! It is hard to believe but I got this 6' display case for $10.00!!!!!! it is a long story but it was sitting out in the rain in front of a junk store and I stopped and asked and it was mine! I had to get 2 glass shelves made and cleaned it up and lined it with white paper. A dream come true for me. I know I will change it around many times but right now here it is.

006r.jpg I have some display items coming in the mail. I will be able to stack the gauges one behind the other and make a bit of room.

These are some items that were my late fathers. He was killed in Viet Nam in 1965. I have never tried to display them. I had always kept them in a safe. I know it is not W.W.2 avaition, but I felt the need to display them.008r.jpg

007R_6_5_4_3.jpg This is the new and improved display closet. I got rid of the black plastic shelf unit and got a small curio cabinet. The room looks nothing like it did a few years ago. I have plans to get another curio cabinet and replace the shelf unit in the picture.

014r_6_3.jpg The room is much better than I thought it could be. It took a few years but I am happy with it. Still there is always room for improvement. I know it is not a B-17 or 8th airforce but I bought this P-40 model with the signature of Tex Hill on the wing.

You've got some magnificient items in there, especially those of your fathers. Family items no matter how small or low ranking in comparison to other items in a collection always have more personal value attached to them. My little case with my Great Grandfather's WWI medals and Grandfather's WWII ones are worth more to me than the (genuine unissued) Victoria Cross that is juxtaposed to them. The little ETO ribbon with 3 stars and the stories I heard from him that are behind those little bronze stars are priceless to me, and something I'm extremely proud of.

After digging around in my parent's place for some time during Thanksgiving we managed to finally find his service uniform and a bunch of other little trinklets and flags he had brought back. One thing that I've always wanted to do is display his uniform; more or less exactly like you have done with the uniforms in this photo. Is there anyplace that you can recommend to get good quality busts like those with the short stands? My Grandfather's uniform and other ones that I would like to display will be in somewhat the same situation as your's, where they'll be sitting on top of short to medium height tables so getting a 3 or 4 foot pole isn't exactly practical  Last time when I visited Craig Gottlieb's place he had 4 really nice uniforms on the same type of stands where the stands were only about 6" tall or so. Any recommendations on places that normally stock such items, or is it more of an art of hunting through thrift shops to find a good piece?

Thanks for the kind words ge999 I wish I had more items that belonged to my dad. I have a few nice items that I should display. His helmet, ARVN Ranger beret and some "trench art" he was working on. I just need more room. My mother got rid of all of his uniforms. All but 2 pictures of him in Viet Nam were lost in a basement flood. There were hundreds of color slides that he took "in country" all gone. I am very thankful that I had his medals in my gun safe.
The display torso's I use to display the Ike jackets I got from Ebay from the seller mannequin24 you can buy it now for $16.95 and $19.50 shipping. The item number is 380390815389 they also work well for enlisted 4 pockets. They do not work very well for anything with a belt. Hope this helps you.

I am pleased to have been able to watch your "closet" diisplay grow. I am very impressed that, regardless of the acquisitions, you are still able to maintain an orderly display. With you, there is considerably more to collecting than acquisition, but rather a heartfelt connection. I look forward to seeing more as the "closet" grows. Jack

002r.jpg Thank you all once more for all the kind words about my collection. I do get get a lot of enjoyment out of putting my collection together and trying to get it to look right. I saw this clothes rack in front of a thrift store. Just like the glass display case I bought, it was sitting out in the rain! I paid $12.00 for it. I am pushing the limit of my space to move new items in but I had to find a spot for it. The flash on the camera makes the carpet a darker pink than it really is. I think my next project will be to find a new carpet. Something in a nice tan.
