khaki1941 Posted July 27, 2009 Share #1 Posted July 27, 2009 Recently while "playing" with my patch collection, I noticed how many different varitions of the 501st Avn. Bn insignia were in the collection! The 501st served in Vietnam from 1964 to 1971. During their service the 501st Avn Bn. was deactivated (in country) and Reactivated as the 71st Aviation Company. The 71st retained the "rattlers" call name and insignia, only change was the number. Below is a link to the units website, which is an excellent source of information on the unit. www.rattler-firebird.org 1st Lift Plt. call sign "Esquires". 2nd Lift Plt. call sign "Phantom". Gun Plt. "Firebirds". 151st Transportation Det. Insignia shown in this thread are from my personal collection unless otherwise noted. First section will deal with the "Rattlers" insignia.
