Hellwood,
Can't say for sure, but from the photos, it looks like the cover may be a Phili Depot made item. The web strap appears to be the thin variety that the depot used. There is a thread on this forum that has some good pics of the Phili Depot made covers. Also, the line(I believe it's called a selvage line???) in the material is present on a couple of my USMC first aid pouchs that are early/pre-WW2.
Cheers!
Marc

PS-Low and behold! Actually, now that I looked at the start of this thread, the first cover pictured in this thread is a Phili Depot cover.

This shouldn't be too hard. I don't have a USMC pouch but I'm assuming that they will have the "Carr" snaps as first aid pouches do from WWI through WWII. Take a look inside the dome of the female snap and you will see Carr's patent date. As far as I know there is no way to reproduce that little detail. The repros I have seen have plain blackend snaps from from a cheap metal. The originals as seen in in Greg's photo will be made from brass and so coloured.

Here's a close-up from a pouch I have. It's identical to the one Greg posted pics of in post #17.

Might as well throw a couple goodies into the mix here...
This one is identical to the one Greg snagged:

Here's another, this one used, with block letters instead of capped:

The Depot shovel covers seem to have shorter straps too, at least the one I have does, ad it seems to be the case in pictures of others. I'm talking about the ones with the thicker strap.
