bayonetman Posted April 11, 2007 Share #1 Posted April 11, 2007 My Great-Uncle's Marine uniform from WW1. Everything on it except the MP brassard, whistle, American Legion ribbon bars and souvenir belt is just the way he wore it home. He was an MP at the Marine section of Camp Pontanezen and brought it home, but was not on the uniform when I got it. There is no Discharge stripe under the MP brassard. The cap EGA is apparently a later one (the late 1930s model according to those who know something about these - I don't) so although his son says the uniform was put away about 1930 and never gotten out again, he may have worn the cap at a later time and replaced the EGA with the later one. He is wearing the EGA on his cap in several of the old photos, but it may have been replaced with a later one but I really don't know why. All later photos of him in uniform are in the VFW uniform. The second photo shows the one on the cap (lower left) and two others that were in his grouping, as well as one of his collar disks. The one in the upper left is silver with a gold anchor, the lower right is bright brass. Comments? I really know very little about the USMC EGA insignias. This is a photo of him taken Armistice Day 1921.
Allan H. Posted April 11, 2007 Share #2 Posted April 11, 2007 Gary C., FANTASTIC uniform and an amazing photograph. Thanks a million for sharing it with us. Is there any chance that you could share some detailed photos of the hate belt? There appear to be some nice numbered EM disks on that sucker! bayonetman Posted April 12, 2007 Author Share #4 Posted April 12, 2007 Here is the belt. Pretty much all US collar disks so I don't call it a hate belt but a souvenir belt; Here are some other photos of Uncle George (even though his first name is actually Peter, he was always called by his middle name of George).Private Peter George Green, Company B, 13th Marine Regiment. Did not arrive in France until September 1918 and spent most of their time guarding the US docks at Bordeaux.
