kyhistorian01 Posted June 2, 2009 Share #1 Posted June 2, 2009 A freind of mine recently gave me these stripes and I was hoping that someone could tell me what time period they were used and what the story is behind them. Thanks! Robert
Bluehawk Posted June 2, 2009 Share #2 Posted June 2, 2009 A freind of mine recently gave me these stripes and I was hoping that someone could tell me what time period they were used and what the story is behind them. Thanks! Robert These are experimental enlisted chevrons which were never officially used or worn, I think they date from the 1950-60s. It was another of the failed or goofy attempts by the Air Force to differentiate itself from it's Army roots and the other 4 branches. BTW, the point of the star points up. craig_pickrall Posted June 3, 2009 Share #3 Posted June 3, 2009 The info at these two links will pretty much cover the history of these chevrons. http://www.usmilitariaforum.com/forums/ind...c=15966&hl= http://www.usmilitariaforum.com/forums/ind...c=32471&hl=
vostoktrading Posted February 27, 2010 Share #4 Posted February 27, 2010 I found this box full of these early Air Force stripes. I know this is an old thread but I thought the photos with the manufacture label would be usefull to everyone.

mikeb Posted February 10, 2013 Share #7 Posted February 10, 2013 I found this box full of these early Air Force stripes. I know this is an old thread but I thought the photos with the manufacture label would be usefull to everyone. This shows a box of 100 pairs of this particular insignia. That means these chevrons are FAR from Rare. Yet whenever you see them offered on EBay they are ALWAYS offered as RARE. Another example of a Dealer (and I do mean Dealer) trying to inflate the value of a collectible. There is so little information on Air Force chevrons that most collectors don't know the true story of these chevrons. Thus, most new collectors will pay exorbitant prices for these chevrons.
