I'll post what I have over the next couple of days. These pictures are of a party for the USMC's inception, I guess you would call it a birthday party. If you like Tiger Stripes, you could overdose in this room. Enjoy, Jon

these pictures are amazing, the colour has a very "modern" feel to it. They look like digital photos someone took yesterday...and not suggesting they are of course. Really sharp and clear images. Amazing :D

They were slides that I had scanned onto a disk. Thanks Jon

These are arguably some of the finest images i have seen of the subject matter.

There are many unique details shown, not least the coloured name tape worn by Capt.Miller and another VNMC member in a few of the photos which must correspond to either a HQ or battalion i would have thought.

Outstanding!

Hi,

Thanks again for the awesome pictures. after watching them , I have 2 questions

- Why did the advisors have to many pens (it seem they had pens on the pocket sleeve for decoration while they used another :D )

- For the vietnamese, they all wore retailored TS shirt (the shirt is not made in the ARVN standard cut)

- All the guys were from the Support Battalion

Just a thought about the pens .

When traveling in India I noticed some people with pens in their pockets .

I asked about this and I was told it was a status symbol to show other casts they could read and write .

I might be talking out my bottom but who knows ???

Regarding the pen issue,

i was always under the impression that (like a side arm) this was a symbol of authority. I will have to try and find where i read that......

I would suspect the pens have to do with showing status. I've heard the VC used the wearing of pens to denote their status/rank. Also, I just spoke with a Mike Force vet who mentioned some of the things the Rhade did, which included wearing two watches on the same wrist. More must mean better!

Awesome pics!!! I haven't seen such crisp candid images in a while.

Wonderful again !

So many details !

Sgt Fauteck's ranks are basic USMC black metal ranks. That is the first time I see that.

The Ltc has different jackets, one with the navy ranks and another with the blossoms.

You can also see USMC helicopter pilots with modified coveralls (pocket added).

The jeep photos above really look like the old city part, west side of the citadel.

Thanks again ! Those photos are really great !

Here are a few more photos. The first shot is Capt Thomas Zalewski, the communications adviser.

This next photo is Capt Philip Norton, the arty adviser.

This next shot was ID'ed as the TOC Mechon River.

IMG_043.jpg

This last shot is of Col Dorssey with Brigade advisers. Jim told me that he thought the officer with his back to us is now General Boomer, who was commander of USMC troops during Desert Storm.
