Gregory Posted April 9, 2007 Share #1 Posted April 9, 2007 Hello, I would be thankful for identification of this interesting Signal Corps picture. Who may be a mix of the troops wearing flying jackets together with the others looking like 10th Mountain Division troops and wearing a mix of old and new helmets? Best regards Greg
Allan H. Posted April 9, 2007 Share #2 Posted April 9, 2007 If I were going to hazzard a guess, I would say that we might be looking at pre-invasion photos from Attu. The mix between M1 and M1917A1 helmets is quite interesting as well as the fact that it looks like most of the rifles are M1903's! Obviously, wearing a B-3 flight jacket like what is seen here would be a good indicator that the weather was pretty darned frigid! The mountain packs would have me looking at the 87th Mountain Infantry or the more famous FSSF as possible units. Allan
dustin Posted April 9, 2007 Share #3 Posted April 9, 2007 I agree with allan, definately early.. 1942era?.The two fellas wearing the leathers are most likely connected with the air corp and makes sense that they would be using 1917A1 helmets wether they are pilots or not it is hard to say could even be ground crew members too.The use of the rucksacks and the feel of a very cold region would certainly indicate possible aleution connections. I would not say pre-invasion but more of replacements because of the presence of the air corp fellas they would have no business on the invasion aspect plus the packs of all are way too full to be an invasion force...way too casual!
