In the 70s it burnt mogas, had dual centrifugal superchargers - turbos came on the diesel version, same engine. The gasser sounded like a dragster and had dual 4" exhaust blew a 4 foot flame out each side, with mufflers! Great stuff at night! . Here is a video at Aberdeen Proving Grounds.

Thought I'd throw in a picture of a 4/73rd Armor M88

Brings back memories. I have a photo of myself somewhere around here using one to pick up a M35 truck at the recovery course at Aberdeen. I also hooked up a M-60 in a very deep mud puddle top pull it out and drove then M88 around and even got to take it through the wash rack. Poor visibility when she's all buttoned up and the brakes are a pain when she's sitting on uneven ground, but it was very fun to drive!

i think it was on a tactical refuel
on reforger?? do you remember that?
or hear about it? they had the little joe
engine running right before the fueling
and it splashed on the damn thing and boom!
a** holes and elbows is all i saw....lol

I sadly don't remember. :(

Those big booms were probably secondary explosions of various careers going up in smoke.

Roger that! Just a comparison, on the subject of militry careers, when I was discharged (Honorable) March 25, 1975, at Fort Dix, everybody less then an Honorable got to wear civilian clothes, the rest of us had to wear Class A's, we were definately a minority, couldn't believe it.
