Salvage Sailor Posted April 14, 2009 Share #1 Posted April 14, 2009 Aloha Everyone, These items are all from my various Grandmothers, Aunts, Sister, etc who have served with the American Red Cross from the Great War to present day. They have been members of the Military Welfare Service, Motor Transportation Corps, Nursing units, Disaster Services, Grey Ladies, etc and I recently took some photos of the contents of a closet at my Grandmothers house. My Grandmother Marie recently passed away, just shy of 102 years old, and her house is filled with ARC items and ephemera. There were also many items from the male members of the family & Civil Defense items, but I'll focus solely on the Womens' services for this topic. This was one of her older nurses' coifs (veil)

Salvage Sailor Posted April 14, 2009 Author Share #3 Posted April 14, 2009 Unfortunately, I do not have any photos of Marie on hand, so I'll add them later on. But this is a photo of my other Grandmother Buena and her sister Donnie circa 1950. These fine ladies were ARC volunteers in WWII, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War

cutiger83 Posted April 16, 2009 Share #11 Posted April 16, 2009 This collection is truly amazing. But what is more amazing is how your family has done so much throughout history. You should be very proud of them. You have relatives from every generation who have contributed. Thanks for sharing....Kat

TCSchultz Posted September 16, 2018 Share #17 Posted September 16, 2018 This brass and blue guilloche box was presented to a member of the American Red Cross by the Staff of Eynsham Hall in Oxfordshire in England on her birthday in October of 1944 and is engraved as such with letters "A.R.C." after her name. Her obituary noted that she served in the Red Cross in the UK during World War II and matched the birthday as well. I thought it would be a nice addition to this thread.
