Hi,
I have a military record here and I am trying to make heads or tails of what does it mean.
Can someone decipher this?
THis is one of the free records on the US GOV database for Soldiers who enlisted from 1938 - 1946 I think.
Enlisted Man, Philippine Scout or recall to AD of an enlisted man who had been transferred to the ERC
If someone can please help it would be GREATLY appreciated!
Thank you!
Help with Military record and what does it mean??

"SOURCE OF ARMY PERSONNEL" is one of the data fields found in NARA's electronic data base of Army Enlistment Records covering the period ca. 1938 - 1946. It indicates the original source of soldier to whom the enlistment (or reenlistment) record pertains. In the example you cited, the soldier was either (1) a Philippine Scout enlisted man who was reenlisting or (2) an Enlisted Reserve Corps enlisted man who was being recalled to active duty.Enlisted Man, Philippine Scout or recall to AD of an enlisted man who had been transferred to the ERC
Here is the complete list of the one-character codes and full titles recorded in this data field:
0 Civil Life
6 Enlisted Man, Philippine Scout or recall to AD of an enlisted man who had been transferred to the ERC
2 Enlisted Man, Regular Army, after 3 months of Discharge
1 Enlisted Man, Regular Army, within 3 months of Discharge or former WAAC Auxiliary
5 Enlisted Reserve or Medical Administrative Corps (MAC) Officer
7 National Guard
4 National Guard in Federal Service, after 3 months of Discharge

9 Returned to Military Control, Apprehended
8 Returned to Military Control, Surrendered
& Selective Service after 3 months of Discharge

Then out spake brave Horatius, the Captain of the Gate:
"To every man upon this earth death cometh soon or late.
And how can man die better than facing fearful odds,
For the ashes of his fathers, and the temples of his gods."
