tigerfan Posted February 24, 2009 Share #1 Posted February 24, 2009 Is anyone familiar with this medal or know what it was for? It measures 1-1/2" in diameter and reads: Award of Merit Mexico. It has 1916 on back with soldiers marching below. This came in a USN group where the sailor was in the Mexican Border Service, WWI and WWII. Link to comment

While the prime market was those who served on the Mexican Border, they certainly were available to Navy veterans who had Mexican service. This is one of the less-often seen commemoratives of the era. I suspect that it was priced a little higher than the others, so it wasn't the souvenir of choice. Link to comment
