Bsquirrely Posted February 6, 2009 Share #1 Posted February 6, 2009 Yeah I know it seems a little far fetched but here you go. I am a close friend of Adrian Winget, the son of Task Kirkland’s XO Kinston Winget. He has sitting in his closet amongst his father’s collection a SS 44 pattern pea dot camo smock complete wit the German Eagle. The story behind it is that that task force was issued a generic brand “X” uniform for their operations. The surplus uniforms just happen to wind up being Surplus German WW2 uniforms. The Koreans working for the task force noticed the Eagles attached to the uniforms. Well the eagle morphed into a “Commando certification badge”. Follow this link to the photos (http://vmpa.ordnancereproductions.com/) go to the Korean section. More to follow…………….

kammo-man Posted February 6, 2009 Share #3 Posted February 6, 2009 I have seen a picture before of Korean troops wearing SS camouflage M-44 Dot tunics during the war along with M1s complete with US gear and wondered about them if it was a modern picture made to fool . Just like a black and white reenactor photo . Well this has turned out to be true !! I am amazed by this link . As a camouflage collector it is a great story for sure . Lets get this right ...... Koreans used SS camouflage suplied by the UN-US -war surplus . France used US -British -German suplied by the Allies . Here is a shot of my 44 Dot set that I have in my collection for a color refence . These uniforms were made from many different types of material , mine having Herringbone pockets and collar , with the main body being poplin . The jacket on the link is the polished cotton and is considered to be quite rare . They came from the factory with the eagle sewn on already . Thanks for posting this fantastic US advisor story . owen kammoman
Bsquirrely Posted February 6, 2009 Author Share #4 Posted February 6, 2009 "Let’s get this right...... Koreans used SS camouflage supplied by the UN-US -war surplus." Only Task Force Kirkland's Commandos. All others so far are unknown usage.

kammo-man Posted February 6, 2009 Share #8 Posted February 6, 2009 The first photo is the one I was thinking about . This leads me to believe that US advisors Might have worn it in a leadership role?? MattD Posted February 6, 2009 Share #10 Posted February 6, 2009 In Ed Evanhoe's book "Darkmoon", he mentions an operation wearing German uniforms Here is another website with similar pics: http://qmd1.hihome.com/page-38.html This is a really weird coincidence about this thread. I commented on "Constabulary's" Windproof topic about them being used by UNPIK/UNPFK and I was going to add a comment about German SS uniforms used by UNPIK/UNPFK forces. USMC RAIDER COLLECTOR Posted February 11, 2009 Share #18 Posted February 11, 2009 A buddy of a buddy of mine found a WW2 German splinter camo pattern jacket in storage at a National Guard armory. It was in with a large lot of old uniforms. They found it while cleaning out. The fact that this stuff was used elsewhere doesnt really suprise me...U.S. troops used WW2 German weapons in the early days of Vietnam..the time when we were but were not there... kammo-man Posted April 28, 2009 Share #21 Posted April 28, 2009 Ron . The 44 dot tunic is stone cold mint , the trousers are slighty worn . But the jacket is close to the B@W photo of the Korean . With so much camouflage surplus floating around after WW2 it seems like it was a free for all !!! owen
