vietvet7071 Posted January 25, 2009 Share #1 Posted January 25, 2009 This is a group I'm putting together using items just laying around. The patch was given to me by a former Chief Master Sargent that was a member of the 311th. He couldn't remember if it was made in Japan or Stateside. He was part of the aircrew on the C123 Providers used in Vietnam in the 1960s. The photo was found on the web somewhere. The wings are all clutch back / pinback, sterling, hallmarked Meyers with the double shield and with 9M. There are still a couple of the wings I need to get. Comments? Lee Ragan Posted January 26, 2009 Share #3 Posted January 26, 2009 The old style Flight Engineers wings would have been replaced by the Vietnam War period by enlisted aircrew wings... but... they still look kinda neat with this display and I'm sure some old salt C-123 flight engineers probably originally wore the old style wings from WWII days. Nice display to honor some aircrews that often didn't get enough credit for what they did.
Simon Lerenfort Posted February 14, 2019 Share #4 Posted February 14, 2019 I would also like to know whether the 311th ACS patches were made in country or in the USA. If so how can one differentiate the types?

If so how can one differentiate the types? Seeing the backs of the patch and over all construction can give a impression on who manufactured the patch as materials and construction can determine US made,Japan,Thailand,VN etc
flytiger Posted February 14, 2019 Share #6 Posted February 14, 2019 FE Wings were worn at least thru 1960 as my Stepdad ( Travis AFB. C-97 ) wore his with Class A's. I would think FE's wore them quite a bit longer and into the VN era. Nice looking display!
