gunner Posted January 18, 2009 Share #1 Posted January 18, 2009 i am looking to add a vietnam era knife (not bayonet) to complete my grouping of web gear. i searched google, ebay, and the forum and did not find much. what would have been issued or just really common for US Army Soldiers to carry in vietnam? also did only the marines carry the KABAR? thanks!!! BOB K. RKSS Posted January 18, 2009 Share #2 Posted January 18, 2009 "jet pilot" Survival Knife would be most common with ARMY ground troops; as a belt knife. Not issued to all, but most often seen. All troops were issued bayonets with M-14, & M-16.

nuke41 Posted January 18, 2009 Share #6 Posted January 18, 2009 The blade markings have been removed and it is a KA-BAR style design: Probably a later WWII issue MK II, so it wouldnt have had markings on the blade, they would have been on the guard. NobleLoyalGSD Posted January 19, 2009 Share #8 Posted January 19, 2009 Then there's the Buck knife. These turn up now and again in a GI's kit. Sorry, at the moment I can't recall the model number but they were often procured from the World or at the exchanges. Buck still makes this model, however the sheath is quite different. I was told that this one was manufactured in 1967. ~Jeff

gunbarrel Posted January 19, 2009 Share #16 Posted January 19, 2009 Yes, they did. If you get one, make sure it's dated during the Viet Nam War, as they still make it.
