ww2guymandude Posted March 30, 2020 Share #1 Posted March 30, 2020 Recently purchased my first ID’d airborne uniform in the collection and couldn’t be happier with it! Ike jacket is ID’d to T/5 Kirby A. Davis “H” Co. 3rd Bn. 501st PIR, later a member of 508th PIR after the 501st was disbanded. The jacket features a nice one piece variant 82nd patch as well as pockets that are sewn shut, most likely to give the jacket a slimmer appearance. After the war, Davis worked in the oil refineries near Galveston,Texas. Tragically, Mr. Davis was one of the 581 casualties associated with the Texas City Disaster of 1947. He was only 25 years old at the time of the disaster. Davis was originally from Oklahoma and is buried in Del City, Oklahoma.

ww2guymandude Posted March 31, 2020 Author Share #4 Posted March 31, 2020 I’m not quite sure when he was with the 501st. I believe he enlisted twice, once before Pearl Harbor (American Defense ribbon) and once in 1944. I think this would explain the presence of only two OS bars as opposed to more that would be reminiscent of a longer serving soldier.
manayunkman Posted March 31, 2020 Share #5 Posted March 31, 2020 A year overseas. Does that include time spent in England?
