skypilot6670 Posted March 28, 2020 Share #1 Posted March 28, 2020 Theron A. Farr enlisted on 10/12/1861 as a private , re-enlisted on 3/29/1864 and served thru 5/1/1865 rising to the rank of 1st Lieut. He was promoted to Capt. but not mustered as such. The description below taken from Foxs Regimental losses in the American Civil War does a far better job Of describing his service than I could. There were other units with higher casualties ,but they were Heavy Artillery and mustered many more men than a standard infantry regiment. The 5th had the greatest loss for an infantry regiment . mdk0911 Posted March 29, 2020 Share #4 Posted March 29, 2020 very cool ID disc - I like the hole in the disc as the pants worn at that time had no pockets so the soldier had to string the disc

USCapturephotos Posted April 5, 2020 Share #7 Posted April 5, 2020 Some how I missed this gem Mike. Thanks for sharing. What a great history this famous unit had. I have a cabinet card post war photo of an officer from this regiment wearing his 2nd Corps badge. Paul

skypilot6670 Posted April 9, 2020 Author Share #10 Posted April 9, 2020 Thanks Scott. It’s a great piece. Got lucky on this one. There were two dealers looking for Civil War ahead of me that missed it or didn’t recognize the unit. Mike
