I have an opportunity to buy this liner. Can anyone tell me when it dates from and what the decals mean. On one side is the drill sgt decal but I don’t the meaning of the other decal and the red stripe.

Many thanks!

Dan

Liner is a P64 model, 1964-1974. Worn by a DS in an AIT unit would be my guess.

Much appreciated! Any idea what the BCT stands for. Brigade Combat Team?

BCT is Basic Combat Training. If I remember correctly, the 3d Brigade "Pioneers" was a BCT brigade at Ft. Dix, NJ. I was in Co E, 6th Bn, 3d BCT Bde at Ft. Dix in Jan 1970.

That it has the THIS WE'LL DEFEND DECAL will not nesserearly mean it was worn by a Drill sergeant, this THIS WE'LL DEFEND while being the quaifcation badge of Drill Sergeants, was also in the late 50s into the early 70s the unit crest of cadre of these posts that had basic, they woulds of beem worn as a standard DI on their uniforns.

A case in point, a mid to late 60s 4th Army Cadre Liner for a 2nd Lieutenant, Ft Polk we suppose,a liner worn by a member of the Training Committee, for some reason the THIS WE'LL DEFEND has been scrapped off.

First approved as the Distinctive Unit Insignia for wear by trainer personnel assigned to U.S. Army Training Activities on 15 January 1958. After it was approved for Drill Sergeants as a qualification badge in 1964 as a large metal pocket badge, it still was worn by all personnel at training establishments.
