mikie Posted March 9, 2020 Share #1 Posted March 9, 2020 I stopped at a garage sale I happened to be passing and made this little haul for a grand total of $6. OK, the staple gun and trowel aren't military, but certainly handy for a buck each. The canteen is a 1945 Vollrath and was a buck. The US Navy flashlight was 2 bucks and works fine. From what I can tell, it dates to late war, 1950s. Then there is that little metal box marked USN. It looks like and is the right size to hold a bar of soap. So I may be safe in guessing that is a soap bar holder thingee. But one thing I've learned around here is that things may not be what they seem. So let me know if anyone knows for sure. No other markings on it. Thanks! Mikie

tredhed2 Posted March 9, 2020 Share #4 Posted March 9, 2020 Maybe the trowel was equipment for sailors assigned to mine planters........
Allan H. Posted March 9, 2020 Share #5 Posted March 9, 2020 Tred, I thought the coast artillery planted mines? Or did they mine planters?
mikie Posted March 9, 2020 Author Share #6 Posted March 9, 2020 I didn't realize the trowel would be so popular around here! Did the navy use mortars? Mikie
