Value effect on Field/Technical Manuals w/ writing, stamping, notations on cover?

What effect does various writing notations, Cancellations, Rescinded, Obsolete stamps have on covers of Field/Technical Manuals?

 

Will it devalue or enhance the document?

My thought would be the subject matter and overall condition would be the most important factors in determining value.

 

To me, unit markings make the manuals more interesting and historic. The same with classification markings. But I m sure there are those who prefer them unmarked as well.

Depends on the marking. Sloppy scribbling that defaces a large. portion of the cover are typically detrimental.

 

I had a basic field manual neatly stamped as belonging to a USMC Parachute Battalion, and named to a specific marine that had an interesting background. Those markings improved the value.

 

So like I said, it depends.
