patches Posted February 18, 2020 Share #4 Posted February 18, 2020 E-23 is the post 1965 code for Emblem Supply Co., Inc, it's for a whole new unit, the 78th Regiment CST of the 78th Division Training of the New Jersey based Reserves. A DI for unit no longer active as of 1959 would be made with a post 1965 code? That's because the 78th Regiment adopted for whatever reason the old DI, the unit crest of the 307th Field Artillery Battalion back then in 1959 when this unit was redesignated rather then adopting a new design,. That this E-23 marked DI has no Made In USA on it, means it will date from 1965 till 1974, after which DIs now must have Made in USA put on them along with the code by manufacturers
Ilin1979 Posted February 18, 2020 Author Share #5 Posted February 18, 2020 Thank you very much patches. Very informative answer. My next question now, is there a book on the DI makers?
patches Posted February 18, 2020 Share #6 Posted February 18, 2020 Thank you very much patches. Very informative answer. My next question now, is there a book on the DI makers? There's not a book but rather a list, a couple of them that are routinely referenced by interested members. http://www.usmilitariaforum.com/forums/index.php?/topic/224854-list-of-manufacturers-of-us-metal-emblems/
