Just found this at a pawn shop.  It looks like a possible field repair or alteration.  The folded leather has a stamp on the front just below the snapped strap.  It looks like USMC on top but I can't make out what is below.  Possibly Boker or Boyt.  Has anyone seen this stamp?  The blade has no markings of any kind.  The handle is one solid piece of wood with the tang inserted inside.  I have seen this wood used on bolo knives.  The back of the sheath has a handwritten number: 34196 (the 1 could be a 7).  Any help or comments would be appreciated.  Thanks.

While I don't see it from the picture, can the three possibly be a letter instead? A letter followed by four numbers would likely be a laundry number and a way to research the possible owner.

It's definitely a number.

USMC/Boyt/1943 stamped sheath for the MKII . The blade profile looks somewhat like a Murphy Combat . Very cool knife .

Anybody have access to ancestry.com who could find out who my US Marine was?  I believe this is a USMC service number.  It is 34796.  Thanks in advance for any input you can provide.
