Early 1950s 10th Special Forces Group Ike jacket find

I took a chance on an auction site as the seller thought this was a WW2 era airborne Ike jacket with matching overseas cap that came out of North Carolina. Based on the oval and airborne command SSI I felt it was an early 10th Special Forces Group Ike jacket possibly prior to their adoption of the green beret. It did not have any insignia on it so I restored the uniform with period insignia to include a pair of Pollard 10th S.F. Grp DUIs. There is no label that I could locate but there is the laundry number of S-8001 inside the collar as well as on the inside lining of the overseas cap. I checked NARA for S-8001 and found three pages of names of which only two enlisted from North Carolina an Avery G. Stephens born 1924 from Durham, N.C. and a Robert L. Strickland born 1916 from Wake, N.C. Both have passed away and I found them on Find a Grave but haven't been able to find any connection with the Special Forces.

This is from a post 1950 card of apparently German made piping for the cap, lists this as Army Specialist,, whatever Army Specialist means, not familiar with that.
