New pick up. Stenciled on the outside and named on the inside.

Maybe 3/305th infantry? And on top what looks like japanese characters.

Its been paired with a korean era liner.

Thoughts ?

Thank you.

I say late 50's into 60's by the look of the webbing in the liner. doesn't look like hbt pattern but, more like the cotton by the look of the weave---- just saying from what I can see in the picture. have some one track the number in the pot-- navy

What are your thoughts on the stencils on the outside and that script on top?

A-CO 3/305/2 Maybe Marine Corps ? I was thinking 3/305/2 Meant something to do with the 305th infantry. As a disclaimer Ya'll know

Im a relative novice with helmets. I bought this under the ( It looks cool I can afford it ) school of thought. lol

And the oriental characters on the crown sold me on it… I didn't pay much attention to the liner.

Il have to get better pics when it comes in.

I appreciate it Mitch.

Thank you.

I darkened the symbols on top in photoshop as best as I could see it in this image, to get a better idea of how it looks.

Ive been looking tonight and the only thing I find close is this.

Japanese. Everything Ive looked at tonight makes methink this script is japanese.

The symbol looks like the first half of thhe japanese word for evil.

I dont know anything about japans language for that to make any sense to me but the symbols

while not an exact match the symbols look like japanese to me????

3/305th infantry fought in guam and okinawa. And after the end of the war the 305th did occupation duty for a time.

I dont know if the stenciling has anything to do with the 305th but thats all Ive been able to find that comes close.

Im not focusing on the liner as it could be an add on by the seller...

Who knows ?

Nope, those are not Korean characters.

Let me clarify, I told the OP in a private message that they "looked a bit" like Korean. I DO NOT speak Korean, nor can I read Korean, I based it on some charts I have showing Korean and Japanese characters. Of course, according to my charts, it did not look very Japanese to me either. And of course, I do not speak nor read Japanese.

I do speak adequate Spanish and Maltese. So if you need help with those... but, I digress.

So, what did we learn today, Scott? Be careful to not throw out nor spitball possibilities lest you be quoted as saying something more authoritive than what was intended.

Dave nice helmet -

I would lean towards WW2 with Kanji on the top. When, where and why it was written is lost to time.

Cool piece

Rooster wanted me to share information that I found on the kanji. It’s Japanese and the sound of the word is “jya” it was written on the helmet to keep the evil spirits away. My friend is Japanese American and she was having trouble with the translation but her mother in Japan helped with the translation.
